There are ways of obtaining free food in an emergency. Although most people know about these programs, there are still many of those that do not and knowing this information will prove very useful.

Every state has a Department of Social Services that provides various services to those in need. The main service they offer is access to a program that is commonly referred to as Food Stamps.

Food stamps is a benefit program that will help you buy food at any grocery store and the process usually does not take long to enter especially if you let them know that you are homeless or are in emergency need of assistance.

Additionally, contact your local DSS to find out what Food banks/pantries are operating in your area. Donated food is collected and distributed to people and the only requirement is that you be a food stamp recipient.
